Chios, the island of chews and A medieval village

The wealth of Chios, since Roman times, comes from mastiha, a leaking rubber mastic from logs and is used for the manufacture of dozens of products, from chewing gum to liquor, drugs perfumes, paints and wax.
The Genoese, and business have always intended, after the conquest of the island in early 1300, they founded a trading company, the Maona , the exploitation of this resource.
